Events in Raleigh-Durham

January
Spend New Year's Eve celebrating at First Night Raleigh. More than 100 performers and art groups take over 35 indoor venues and outdoor stages. The night, and the year, are capped off with fireworks and the descent of the "Raleigh acorn" at midnight.

April
The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival showcases documentary filmmakers and their work. The festival features more than 100 films, panel discussions, seminars and Q&A sessions.

May
The City of Medicine Fitness Festival takes place at Durham County Stadium. The annual festival features walks, jogs and runs, and a variety of races. Visitors can get free health and fitness screenings.

Each May, Raleigh enjoys the Artsplosure Spring Jazz and Art Festival, featuring live jazz and blues, delicious barbecue and juried art exhibits.

June
Durham is home to The American Dance Festival, the largest modern dance festival in the world, at the Duke West Campus. More than 24 modern dance companies, as well as hundreds of choreographers, writers and students participate in classes, seminars and performances.

July
The Festival for the Eno is one of the region's most popular Independence Day celebrations. Features include exhibits, arts and crafts and live entertainment. The lovely Eno River provides a great natural atmosphere.

September
The Bull Durham Blues Festival rides into Durham at the historic Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Enjoy live local, regional and national blues, from ragtime to finger-picking.

October
Raleigh hosts the North Carolina State Fair each October for 10 days. Live entertainment, music, arts and crafts and the famous demolition derby and BMX stunt show draw scores of attendees. Visitors can shop historic craft booths in the "Village of Yesteryear."

November
Held at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds, the North Carolina International Festival promotes the awareness, appreciation and acceptance of diverse culture. The festival features live music and performances, demonstrations, a bazaar, cultural booths and sidewalk cafes.

December
The Historical Oakwood Candlelight Tour is an experience to behold each December in Raleigh. The two-day tour highlights Raleigh's historic buildings, and homeowners often open their houses to share decorations and history.
