Events in Philadelphia

To find the most up-to-date list of events in Philadelphia, a simple search on Google or one of the other search engines will turn up dozens of sites offering information on a wide variety of fun options. We'll try to emphasize some of the highlights, but there's such a variety of events from theater to nightlife to sporting and more, that we couldn't hope to capture all of it here.

Sporting Events - You can almost always find an exciting activity occurring at the sports complex in South Philadelphia. Not only do all the teams play in either Lincoln Financial Field, the Wachovia Center and Spectrum or the ballpark, but concerts and other events frequently occur there as well.

Restaurant Week - Philadelphia residents love to eat. The city has a vast variety of excellent restaurants, and a great way to sample some of the best is to make reservations during Restaurant Week. Three courses for less than an entree would normally cost at some of the city's finest restaurants - how can you beat that?

Penn Relays - Yet another first for Philadelphia - the Penn Relays are the oldest amateur track competition in the United States. Whether you're running or watching, be sure to check out this adrenaline-charged event in April.

Philadelphia Freedom Festival - Given Philadelphia's celebrated past, it's no surprise the city loves to celebrate the Fourth of July with parades, concerts, fireworks and more.

Mummer's Parade - The first time you experience a Mummer's Parade, you'll be blown away by the dedication of the locals and the sheer extravagance of the event. New Year's Day morning sees some of the most fancifully costumed people you'd ever want to see strutting through the streets of Philadelphia. The parade started officially in 1901 although the earliest known Mummers club in the city was called the Chain Gang and was formed in the 1840s. You can't really call yourself a Philadelphian if you've never seen a Mummer in full regalia.
