Living in Milwaukee

Milwaukee offers visitors and residents alike a variety of interesting activities from its great shopping to its historic districts to its local breweries. The vibrant nightlife offers a variety of bars, clubs and casinos.

Adult students in Milwaukee find a number of continuing education options. Marquette University is a Catholic, Jesuit institution. The university opened in 1881 and today educates more than 11,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students. The region also offers a number of other excellent schools including the Milwaukee School of Engineering, University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, Mount Mary College and Alverno College, just to name a few.

The Potawatomi Bingo Casino
The casino floor plan reflects the heritage of the Potawatomi Native Americans and is a popular attraction for residents and tourists alike. Open 24 hours a day, the casino features a 500-seat theater and specialty restaurants in addition to the casino games.

One of the region's most popular clubs, this large facility hosts live entertainment including less traditional spoken-word poetry in addition to the typical bands.

Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin
This delightful lakefront attraction provides visitors with a variety of saltwater and freshwater aquariums, touch tanks, maritime heritage displays and a variety of other innovative displays.

Mad Planet
The funky '80s come alive at Mad Planet's retro-themed dance club. The dancing, the drinks, and the DJs' house and techno music all make this a popular nightlife stop.

The Milwaukee Mile
One of the country's premier auto racing venues, The Milwaukee Mile's racing events date all the way back to 1903. The track currently hosts major races for NASCAR and the Indy Racing League

The Milwaukee Art Museum
Visitors enjoy wandering through the galleries and observing the 20,000 pieces at the including works by Picasso, O'Keeffe and Warhol.

Miller Brewing Company
The world's third-largest brewery offers free tours and tastings. Visitors enjoy learning how beer is brewed, fermented, aged and packaged. They also enjoy learning how it tastes.

Milwaukee Public Museum
The Milwaukee Public Museum is considered one of the finest natural history museums in the United States with more than six million specimens and artifacts. The museum also provides a number of special exhibits.

Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory
The Horticultural Conservatory has earned the nickname "the Domes" with a range of flora displayed in different types of domes. For example, the cacti are housed in the Arid Dome while the Tropical Dome offers rainforest plants. The Floral Show Dome features themed blossom displays that change with the seasons.

Pabst Mansion
A beer baron has to have a proper mansion. In 1892 Captain Frederick Pabst built his with an impressive 37 rooms, 12 bathrooms and 14 fireplaces, and you can tour through the entire thing. And what better place for a mansion than Milwaukee's Grand Avenue of Mansions?

Old World Third Street
Originally a German neighborhood, this area now offers residents and visitors a variety of boutiques, specialty shops and restaurants.

Milwaukee County Zoo
One of the finest zoos in the country, the Milwaukee County Zoo houses 2,500 rare and wild animals. The 194 acres of the park allow the animals to roam in their natural habitats.

Irish Cultural and Heritage Center of Wisconsin
Just west of downtown, this heritage center is housed in the landmark Grand Avenue Congregational Church building. Aside from the cultural and educational programs offered by the center itself, it hosts an impressive assortment of lectures, dances and concerts. Those seeking some heritage and history can do research in the genealogical research center or take an Irish music class.
